Lutgarde has been tasked with staying on the bigger landmass during the big battles, seeing that there isn't too much chaos going on elsewhere while the sounds of war shake the region once more - and this time, the Kalosian also is around. This does mean, however, that, at the end of the day, they seeked to return to Lilycove with only minor concerns to see ... flooding. Almost everywhere.

Unfortunately, places near the beach were especially hit and unfortunately, they have picked exactly such a place. It's lucky that they take care of their dresses so the damage, even after flooding and ebbing, but ... they really do not want to think about it too hard.

And isn't it fortunate that, after a night at a temporary shelter, work is calling again. They smile, not ebing able to quite keep the chipperness they usually have, and wave at the Gym Leader of Lilycove - someone they only heard of so far. "Hey there! Lam, right? I was told you might need more hands to help out with, well, everything?" Whether it be working on the gym or the streets or anything - Lutgarde's open for anything, as they also are dressed in shockingly plain clothes (with mandatory accessory bows). Sylv, their black-red dyed Sylveon, walks up besides them with a greeting coo.

he was up to his elbows in responsibilities. he wouldn't trade the city of lilycove for any other - lam had grown to love the place dearly. he'd been able to make this place home alongside his partner. but in the aftermath of kyogre's fury unleashed upon sootopolis... he could admit that now was one of the very few instances where he wished the city wasn't close to the ocean.[break][break]

even if he loved that fact every other day of the year.[break][break]

he could at least be grateful that the damage hadn't destroyed the entire city. or his house, for that matter. though the gym was another story.[break][break]

lam shook his head and plodded further down the beach. he'd worry about that particular project later. right then, he was meant to be delegating volunteers with debris clean up. forlornly, he started down at his clipboard - only to glance up again when someone approached. "yep! that's me. are you from the ranger corps?" he was supposed to meet with some, if he remembered right.[break][break]

despite the circumstance, he smiled easily. "if you couldn't tell, we've got our work cut out for us. so the help is more than welcome." from behind his legs, a psyduck peered at the uniquely-colored sylveon with obvious interest. "most everyone's working on the public beach today."

As soon as Lutgarde see's Lam's easy smile, it's mirrored on their face as well - perhaps mixed a bit with relief because, regardless of the situation, they'd rather prefer to follow an optimistic carry-on mentality than sinking deeper into pessimism and despair. One step at a time is a manageable unit in their mind, and they rarely ever think beyond that.

"Perfect! Yes, I'm Lutgarde, elite ranger." A fairly new title awarded after their many years of being a ranger. "Yeah, I'm living at the beach which ... didn't work out in my favour," they laugh with a bit of sorrow as they think about their flooded apartment. Gladly, the water masses have retreated after whatever ritual has happened at Sootopolis which meant that they could even enter their flat at all, but it's still ... not been too good. "But apart from that, I'm very open to help with whatever's needed! Should we also head to the public beach with the clean-up or are there other tasks to do?"

Sylv regards the Psyduck with interest as well as it looks at him with interest, before greeting the water type with a friendly coo and a flutter of his ribbons. One of those also extends from him to the Psyduck in a friendly gesture - but he's hesitant about actually connecting since not everyone likes this emotional link, however brief. "Oh, and this is my partner Sylv, by the way. His dye's waterproof, so he'll help as he's able, too."

whatever relief lutgarde feels, lam mirrors the same. it is much easier, he thinks, to undertake this particular project if they tackle it head on, and with the confidence that it will all come together. Though a part of himself also knows that if he slows down long enough to worry about it, he'll get hung up on how much there is to repair.[break][break]
"lutgarde," he echoes their name with an affirmative nod of his head. "great to meet you." his smile slips into a mild grimace, though. "i'm sorry to hear that, but i can commiserate. they gym was hit pretty hard too." he was honestly lucky his house was just enough in land to avoid severe damage. it had certainly made the gain of neutral ground in sootopolis something he found himself less eager to celebrate.[break][break]
lam tucks the clipboard under an arm and nods again. "yep! i think that's a good of a place as any to start. if i remember right, there's a fair amount of displaced pokemon out there too, who were caught up in the floating debris." if they could return them to the ocean too, it would be two birds, one stone situation.[break][break]
as he turns to lead them down to the beach, his psyduck waddles forward. not an ounce shy, she meets the offered ribbon with one flipper and a proud psssssyy. lam laughs, "and that would be peaches. i'm sure she'll rope your sylv into some sort of shenanigan or other sooner rather than later."

"Great to meet you, too!" Lutgarde returns with an easy smile, before it turns more compassionate. "I'm glad your house's standing still, though I'll have to delay my gym plans ... even more," they add with a faint smirk. They've been meaning to challenge more gyms, but with the rising tides and the tension in the region, it just feels ... odd, frankly. Even though it's also a much needed piece of normality, a reminder of the times before that they try to rebuild.

"Sounds good to me! I've seen quite some water pokémon stranded downtown, so I think we're probably half of an expert at that now," they laugh quietly as they take out another pokéball to call for their Primarina Noh. The songster (?) looks at Lam and his Psyduck with a friendly smile. "And this here is Noh, he'll help us when it comes to moving pokémon back to the ocean." Though maybe they'll also need help from their Togekiss or their Galarian Rapidash ... they'll figure it out later, as they start walking towards the beach, following Lam. There's also plenty of volunteers working on it, but there's one particularly big piece of debris that hasn't been touched yet - something for more experienced hands, as one also can't say what might be stuck below there.

Sylv happily connects with the Psyduck, exchanging cheerful emotions with one another before following her with a curious look. "Oh no," Lutgarde grins, taking a moment to also take in some of Sylv's perpetual optimism. (A feat of strength that looks easy for the Sylveon, but Lutgarde knows this not to be true at all.) "Let's hope it won't be too bad, hmm?" Coming to a halt in front of their clean-up task, though, their face becomes a bit more forlorn and serious again.

"We'll need to carefully lift it ... see if there's maybe someone still trapped. Do you think Peaches can figure out some psychic signatures, or something?" they wonder. Else they consider calling for Oreo who would also be a big help generally helping with lifting.
